The area that is commonly referred to as "Temagami" is in fact a series of protected waterway parks within a large wilderness area with the Township of Temagami on its  eastern boundary. The Township of Temagami is located 96 km north of North Bay Ontario.

Nastawgan Trails
There are many hiking trails in the Temagami Area that allow for short walks, day hikes or extended backpacking adventures. The spectacular Ottawa-Temiskaming Highland Trail is now ready for use from Grand Campment Bay on Lake Temiskaming to the Town of Latchford. This is a rugged wilderness trail with great campsites, beautiful vistas and lots of wildlife. www.nastawgantrails.com

Camping Permits
Camping Permits, available in our store, are required for camping in the waterway parks. Crown Land permits are not required when using the services of Temagami Outfitting Company.

The Waterway Parks that exist inside the boundaries of the wilderness area are:
Sturgeon River Waterway Park
Obabika River Waterway Park
Solace Provincial Park
Lady Evelyn - Smoothwater Wilderness Park
Finlayson Point Park (located 2 km south of the town site)

We can send you an excellent planning map called the "Temagami Canoe Routes Map" that gives a comprehensive overview of the area's canoe routes and campsites.

Sturgeon River Waterway Park
Stretching from the west end of the Lady Evelyn - Smoothwater Park to approx 20 kms south of the Obabika River Waterway, this scenic route gives canoeists a wide range of paddling experiences. The river in spring is a class II (Class III in some stretches) and, as the water levels drop, as the season progresses the river becomes a Class I to II. Wild life viewing is excellent as the river takes you through some of the more remote wilderness areas.

Obabika River Waterway Park
This park created in 1989 encompasses Lakes Wakimika, Obabika and Diamond. This area is known for its stands of Old Growth on the north end of Obabika Lake and its superb campsites. The Obabika River is the only exception as it winds its way through dense wilderness and wetlands leaving limited camping opportunities for certain stretches. The wildlife viewing along the Obabika is arguably the best in the area.

Solace Waterway Park
If you are bound and determined to find solitude, then the Solace Park is your ultimate destination. The Solace chain of lakes links the Lady Evelyn - Smoothwater Wilderness Park and the Sturgeon Waterway Park. The topography alone makes this park a fascinating journey. Ishpatina Ridge, only a few miles north of the Solace imparts unique vertical development providing added solitude to the area.

Lady Evelyn - Smoothwater Wilderness Park
Established in 1983, the Lady Evelyn Wilderness Park is the center piece of the Temagami Wilderness area. Crystal clear lakes and majestic rivers provide discriminating wilderness travelers with unlimited opportunities to explore a region world-renowned for its scenic old growth red and white pine forests and ancient hiking trails. Inside the wilderness park is Ishpatina Ridge, the highest point in Ontario. Climb to the top of Ishpatina, camp at the old ranger station and enjoy the most spectacular view in Ontario!
